"Yggdrasil", Grand Fare, Oakland
14 feet by 102 inches, sumi ink, tea on paper
Yggdrasil is the tree of life in Nordic Mythology. The literal translation of Yggdrasil is “Odin’s Horse” or World Tree. It is described as a giant ash tree that links the nine worlds of Norse cosmology. Several characters inhabit the tree including the serpent, Nidhogg, contantly gnawing on its roots. Four stags run across the branches representing the four winds. In the topmost branches sits the knowledgeable eagle, who is constantly fed gossip by the squirrel, Ratatosk
